World & Scottish titles up for grabs at Loch Lomond writes Shane Fenton

A thrilling day of track and field action is in prospect this Saturday as Balloch prepares to stage the annual Loch Lomond Highland Games at the Moss O' Balloch Park.

The highlight of the day will be the Official World Heavy Events Champioship with all the leading 'heavies from Scotland and Overseas set to do battle.
There is eight different disciplines. Putting the 16lb and 22lb pound stones, the 16lb and 22lb Hammer, the 28lb ball and chain for distance,56lb weight for distance, and 56lb weight over the bar and Tossing the Caber.

The running events feature the Scottish 80 metres Championship, there will also be handicap races over 90m 200m,400m,800m,1600m and 3200m. The Youth runners are also catered for with a 90m,200m and 800m.

Loch Lomond introduced 'Jumps' events a few years ago and have proved a popular addition to the programme.

Unfortunately, similar to the previous week, due to unavoidable fixture clashes the cyclists will be split, thankfully this season there is enough competitors to support two games on the same day. The bikers will contest four races on the card over 800m,1600m,3200m as well as a Deil tak the Hindmost. This should be the last clash of dates between Loch Lomond and Alva for a number of years.

The games also stage a full programme of wrestling, solo piping and highland dancing.
