TONY COHEN - HIGHLAND GAMES & SHINTY CHAMPION
An accomplished Highland athlete and Inverness Harrier,
Tony Cohen aged 81,a Shinty and Highland Games Stalwart has sadly passed away.
. He was a well known sporting all rounder, winning the East African Heavyweight Boxing Title while serving with the Gordon Highlanders in Kenya. He became noted as an outstanding heavy events athlete for Inverness Harriers, including becoming Scottish Amateur Heavy Events Champion in 1970 and again in 1971.
Throwing the Hammer and 56lbs weight over the bar were his favourite events on the Highland Games Circuit,where he enjoyed considerable success. In the run up to the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, New Zealand hammer thrower Warwick Nicoll competed at Inverness Highland Games and was defeated by Tony in the Scotch Hammer
