Craig Gillan, Jedburgh winner of Open 90m


Dylan Ali winner of Youths 90m

After the threat of early rain the skies cleared and the sun shone on the Memorial Park for the 157th Thornton Highland Gathering.


The games were officially open by Hon.Sherriff Brian Wood.


There were good entries for most of the events particularly in the highland dancing.
On the track the days top prize was the £200 on offer to the winner of the Open 90 metres handicap and it saw victory go to Borderer Craig Gillan from Jedburgh just pipping Jack Beattie Kelty and last years winner Darren Thomson Lothian Running Club.


The latter pair gained revenge with Beattie taking the 200 metres and Thomson the 400 metres.
Robert Inglis of the Lothian Running Club landed a double with victory in both the 800 metres and 3200 metres with Trevor Johnstone from Airdrie taking the 1600 metres.


In the Youths running Dylan Ali made the journey to Fife from the Borders a profitable one by winning both the 90 metres and 200 metres handicaps.


Eilidh Reid from Pitreavie AC won her first race on the games circuit with victory in the youth's 800 metres, there was also a first time winner in the Youth's 1600 metres with Ewan Ross from Milnathort racing to victory.


In the cycling events Craig Hardie Dalgety Bay was in scintillating form winning the 1600 metres, 3200 metres and 4800 metres handicaps.


The overall champion in the heavy events was Neil Elliot, Helensburgh, he and Sinclair Patience from Tain won three disciplines apiece and tied for first in the closing weight over the bar.
