STEPHEN AITKEN

Scottish Highland Games  heavyweight  enthusiasts  throughout the world  have been  shocked  to hear of the  sudden and  tragic death of Stephen  Aitken , one of the leading international heavyweights over the  past  25 years.  Stephen, aged 45, was one of the talented young heavyweights who emerged in the late eighties along with his brother Bruce, Ron Young, Calum Morrison, Gordon Martin, Francis Bremner,   Alistair Gunn and Steven King.  Like his father Rob before him, Stephen  was an all-rounder and  excelled in his youth  in running and jumping and  both won  the coveted  Chieftain’s Challenge Trophy  for the best all round athlete  at Aboyne . For some years he has been MD of Darlington Auction Mart but continued to make the long journey north to compete in his beloved sport and had a very successful year in 2011.
He had still so much to give.
