NEW HIGH JUMP RECORD AT LORNE

Shane Fenton reports from Mossfield Park

Edinburgh AC's Angus Sinclair set a new ground record in the High Jump at the 2nd Lorne Highland Games at Oban on Sunday

Sinclair cleared 1.90m to eclipse the figures of 1.80 set by Allan Smith at the inaugural games in 2013. Sinclair then went on to have a couple of attempts on the Scottish record but failed narrowly on both ocassions.

Donald Tod, Glasgow City was the victor in the triple jump with a leap of 42'7'' with Jordan Charters, Lasswade AC jumping out to 21' 6.5'' to win the long jump.

There was a close finish to the Open 90 metres handicap with Ben McCullough-Young, Edinburgh AC edging out Donald Tod and Calum Innes, VP Glasgow, the latter who is just home from Canada where he studies at the Trinity Western University in Vancouver recently recorded a PB of 10.73 for the 100 metres which moved him up to 2nd place in the Scottish rankings for 2014.

Innes later went on to finish runner up in the 200 metres final behind Tod with John McCallum, Edinburgh AC in 3rd. The latter produced a powerful run to win the 400 metres, Craig Tomison from Oban gave the locals something to cheer by winning the 800 metres handicap with Matthew Turner Shettleston coming from the backmark to claim victory in the 1600 metres handicap.

There was a Lochaber 1-2 in the hill race with Tom Smith coming home ahead of club mate Colin Donnelly with Craig Tomison in 3rd.
