Double Header Weekend on Games Circuit

DOUBLE HEADER WEEKEND ON GAMES CIRCUIT writes Shane Fenton

Despite the unfortunate postponement of Cupar Highland Games on Saturday [10th] owing to the forecast of further rain on top of an already very wet surface it's still a doubl-header weekend on the Games circuit with the Bearsden & Milngavie Games on Saturday[10th] and Strathmore Games[11th] on Sunday.

The venue for the Bearsden & Milngavie Games is once again Burnbrae the home of West of Scotland R.F.C. There is no track athletics but there is a full programme of heavy events. pipe bands, highland dancing and wrestling. Chieftain for the day is Emmerdale actress Katherine Dow Blyton who plays Harriet Finch.

The games are also catering for those who wish to watch the Scotland v England football international with a Family Fanzone in the beer tent.

The action moves to Angus on Sunday for the Strathmore Highland Games which takes place within the palatial surroundings of Glamis Castle.

There is a full programme of Open athletics, 90m,200m,400m,800m,1600m and 3200m with a 90m and 1600m for the youths. The cyclists have five races from 800m to 8000m. There is a full programme of heavy events featuring the Scottish Caber Championship also a pipe band contest, highland dancing and solo piping. The action gets underway at 12.30pm.
