SUPPORT YOUR FIFE & CENTRAL HIGHLAND GAMES IN 2017
writes Shane Fenton
During the summer of 2017 competitors and spectators alike will have the opportunity to take part in, or support Highland Games in the Fife & Central region on almost 12 successive weekends.
Kicking off on Sunday 4th June at Markinch there will be games every weekend through until the Sat 5th/Sun 6th Aug when the Inverkeithing and Bridge of Allan Games takes place before the F & L season culminates with the Stirling Games on 19th Aug.
These Games just don't happen every year, many take them for granted but a lot of hard work goes on throughout the winter by the various committees who are all dedicated volunteers to ensure the survival of these centuries old traditions.
Many aren't exactly tourist hot spots and rely heavily on their big day of the support from the the locals and those of the surrounding towns and villages. Locals can also support their events during the winter, whether it be bingo in Alva, a beetle drive in Burntisland, a quiz night in Newburgh or a jumble sale in Markinch.
So this summer whether you be a competitor or spectator support your local games, they will love to see you and at the same time you will be helping in ensuring the future of your town or village's big day of the year. And hopefully the sun will shine on all.
