OBAN ALL SET FOR BIG DAY writes Shane Fenton.

Oban is once again getting set to welcome athletes from all over Scotland for it's annual games.
With their track seasons now almost all but over many of the higher ranked runners and jumpers in the country have indicated they will be taking the opportunity to compete, for the generous prize money that is on offer.

All the events are scratch apart from a couple of handicaps over 90 metres and 1600 metres.
Oban is one of the few meetings which have seperate events for the female competitors[not the heavy events], that and the lure of some end of season pocket money always attracts many of the higher ranked female competitors.

Another attraction is that the Games stage four of the SHGA Championships, 100m, 800m, 3200m as well as the Scottish Light Field Championship.[HJ,LJ,TJ].

If that is not enough runners can still pick up more prizes in the overall Argyllshire Sprint CH,[100M,150M AND 400M] and Argllshire Middle Distance CH, [800m,1600m,3200m].
There is also a full programme of youth events on the programme.

As always the Hill Race 2.25 miles/500feet will attract a big field with again seperate races for the males and females.

Another big field is anticipated for the heavy event competitors who will have there usual 7 disciplines.

Any athlete who wants to participate at this excellent meeting can still do so as all entries are taken on the day [£5 all in].

So if you are looking for an afternoon of top athletics get yourself along to Mossfield Park, Oban this Thursday[25th Aug] the action gets underway at 11am.
