LORNE HIGHLAND GAMES UP & RUNNING writes Shane Fenton
The inaugural Lorne Highland Games went ahead at Mossfield Park, Oban on Sunday. The games are expected to be full members of the SHGA in 2014.
Despite a strong gusty wind it remained dry for most of the day and there were some good performances in the track and field events.
Scotland's leading high jumper Allan Smith, Pitreavie AC won both the High and Triple jump competitions.
Top under-20 sprinter James Higgins,Airdrie Harriers made his Highland Games debut and won the Open 90 metres handicap. The 200 metres went to former New Year Sprint winner Cumbie Bowers, Glenrothes with Billy Martin also Glenrothes taking the 400 metres.
Wallace McGown ,Sauchie and Craig Bell,Forfar were the respective winners of the 800 metres and 1600 metres handicaps..
I don't have the official results for the heavy events to hand but there was some good competition with Bruce Robb, Neil Elliot, Craig Sinclair and Sinclair Patience among those entertaining the crowd. There was also heavy event competitions for both females and locals.
