BBC ALBA SHOWING SERIES OF GRAMPIAN GAMES FROM LAST SEASON - SEE BELOW FOR SCHEDULE

A full-on clash of the titans, the brand new series, Trom is Tapaidh comes to BBC ALBA for December 2009.  Donald MacSween joins Scottish & International heavies competing for the prestigious 2009 Grampian Games Glenfiddich Championship. Trom is Tapaidh (literally Strong and Heavy) gets in amongst the action with the Big Men at three of the circuit’s most popular games, kicking off with Ballater, marching on at Lonach and into battle at Braemar where the 2009 champion will be crowned.

From throwing the Hammer to tossing the caber, viewers will marvel at the strength and fierce passion of the Heavies, cheered on by crowds drawn to the Games for the spectacle of traditional Highland competitions. Amidst the skirl of the pipes, Donald joins Men in kilts from as far afield as Australia, USA, and Poland with the best of Scotland’s home grown talent.

Rising to the challenge of competing himself, Donald is mentored in the ways of the Heavies, training on his Lewis croft. Will he have the stamina to master the Heavies’ techniques and emerge victorious in the arena of giants?

Catch Donald in action with Scotland’s finest Heavies on BBC ALBA, Tuesdays 1st, 8th & 15th December at 9pm. BBC ALBA transmits on Sky channel 168, Freesat 110 and on BBC i-player.
